<p>A major reason for disappearing model numbers is a federal regulation change: manufacturers are no longer allowed to produce new HVAC equipment using R410A refrigerant.</p>
<p>The industry is now transitioning to R32, which is more efficient and environmentally friendly.</p>
<p>Because refrigerant type plays a large role in certifications, safety design, and compliance standards, switching from R410A to R32 requires:</p>
<ul>
<li>New engineering requirements</li>
<li>Updated safety protocols</li>
<li>New certifications</li>
<li>And, yes&hellip; new model numbers</li>
</ul>
<p>Even when a unit looks nearly identical, the refrigerant change alone is enough to force a completely different SKU.</p>
<p id="HAU36W8">If you would like more information on this change, you can find that <a href="https://furrion.rvproductsshop.com/blog/post//blog/r32-vs-r410a-refrigerant" target="_blank" rel="noopener">here</a>.</p></div><div data-content-type="divider" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><hr data-element="line" data-pb-style="SP3KOW8"></div></div></div><div data-content-type="row" data-appearance="contained" data-element="main"><div data-enable-parallax="0" data-parallax-speed="0.5" data-background-images="{}" data-background-type="image" data-video-loop="true" data-video-play-only-visible="true" data-video-lazy-load="true" data-video-fallback-src="" data-element="inner" data-pb-style="VC5X7VP"><div data-content-type="text" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><h2>Industry-Wide Changes</h2>
<p>This is <em>not </em>just a Furrion thing. You are likely to see similar changes across most, if not all, HVAC manufacturers right now. Entire product lines and individual components have become obsolete as companies adapt to the new refrigerant standards.</p>
<p>So, if products from multiple brands suddenly feel hard to find, it&rsquo;s not coincidence, it&rsquo;s an industry-wide shift.</p></div><div data-content-type="divider" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><hr data-element="line" data-pb-style="Q8ACE0Q"></div></div></div><div data-content-type="row" data-appearance="contained" data-element="main"><div data-enable-parallax="0" data-parallax-speed="0.5" data-background-images="{}" data-background-type="image" data-video-loop="true" data-video-play-only-visible="true" data-video-lazy-load="true" data-video-fallback-src="" data-element="inner" data-pb-style="FBU0NSO"><div data-content-type="text" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><h2>If I Replace My Old AC, Do I Need a Whole New System?</h2>
<p>The short answer: Likely. You may notice that components from the same product line don&rsquo;t always work together anymore. That&rsquo;s usually because:</p>
<ul>
<li>Parts had to be redesigned to meet R32 safety requirements</li>
<li>Internal components have been upgraded</li>
<li>Older parts were engineered specifically for R410A systems</li>
</ul>
<p id="W1JFSEX">In other words, compatibility breaks often happen because manufacturers are improving performance, efficiency, functionality, or safety, <em>not </em>arbitrarily changing things.</p></div><div data-content-type="divider" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><hr data-element="line" data-pb-style="L4SEJRW"></div></div></div><div data-content-type="row" data-appearance="contained" data-element="main"><div data-enable-parallax="0" data-parallax-speed="0.5" data-background-images="{}" data-background-type="image" data-video-loop="true" data-video-play-only-visible="true" data-video-lazy-load="true" data-video-fallback-src="" data-element="inner" data-pb-style="YXBWQLE"><div data-content-type="text" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><h2>New Models = Upgraded Technololgy</h2></div><div class="pagebuilder-column-group" data-background-images="{}" data-content-type="column-group" data-appearance="default" data-grid-size="12" data-element="main" data-pb-style="MAH14Q3"><div class="pagebuilder-column-line" data-content-type="column-line" data-element="main" data-pb-style="D9FKXD1"><div class="pagebuilder-column" data-content-type="column" data-appearance="full-height" data-background-images="{}" data-element="main" data-pb-style="J3U0L6A"><div data-content-type="text" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><p>Many manufacturers are using this transition as an opportunity to release upgraded products, phasing out older designs that may have lacked modern features or don't live up to improvements in efficiency.</p>

<li>Compatibility options may change because internal components were updated</li>

<p>Modern RV air conditioners are designed to be more efficient and environmentally friendly than those of the past. A key part of that progress is the shift toward better refrigerants. Refrigerants are the substances inside an AC system that absorb heat from your RV and release it outside in order to keep the interior cool.</p>
<p>For many years, R410A has been the standard refrigerant in both residential and RV cooling systems. Today, due to EPA mandates, manufacturers are beginning to transition to R32, a newer refrigerant that delivers higher efficiency and a lower environmental impact.</p>
<p>This guide provides a clear, easy to understand comparison of R32 and R410A, and explains the benefits of using R32.</p></div><div data-content-type="divider" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><hr data-element="line" data-pb-style="RYEFWYG"></div></div></div><div data-content-type="row" data-appearance="contained" data-element="main"><div data-enable-parallax="0" data-parallax-speed="0.5" data-background-images="{}" data-background-type="image" data-video-loop="true" data-video-play-only-visible="true" data-video-lazy-load="true" data-video-fallback-src="" data-element="inner" data-pb-style="QJQF5OE"><div data-content-type="text" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><h2>What is R410A Refrigerant?</h2></div><div class="pagebuilder-column-group" data-background-images="{}" data-content-type="column-group" data-appearance="default" data-grid-size="12" data-element="main" data-pb-style="WJ2V5IN"><div class="pagebuilder-column-line" data-content-type="column-line" data-element="main" data-pb-style="A2XC55L"><div class="pagebuilder-column" data-content-type="column" data-appearance="full-height" data-background-images="{}" data-element="main" data-pb-style="E9CU8NS"><div data-content-type="text" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><p>R410A became the leading refrigerant in cooling systems after older options like R22 began phasing out. It has become known for reliability, strong cooling performance, and compatibility with fixed speed compressor systems that have been the standard for many years.</p>
<p><strong>Key Characteristics</strong>:&nbsp;</p>
<ul>
<li>R410A is a blend made from two separate refrigerants, R32 and R125</li>
<li>It is rated A1, meaning it is non flammable</li>
<li>It provides dependable, proven performance in traditional RV and residential AC systems</li>
<li>Service equipment for R410A is widely available</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Limitations</strong>:</p>
<ul>
<li>It has a high Global Warming Potential (GWP) of about 2,088</li>
<li>It is less efficient at transferring heat compared to R32</li>
<li>Systems require a larger refrigerant charge to achieve the same results</li>

It is especially common in systems that use inverter or variable speed compressors, which are now appearing in more advanced RV AC models.</p>
<p id="GXVHG2G"><strong>Key Characteristics:&nbsp;</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>It is a single component refrigerant rather than a blend, which makes it easier to recycle</li>
<li>It offers higher thermal efficiency, which helps systems cool faster</li>
<li>It has a <em>significantly </em>lower GWP of about 675</li>
<li>Systems using R32 require less refrigerant to deliver the same performance</li>
<li>It supports improved energy efficiency, especially in variable speed systems</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Safety Information</strong></p>
<p>R32 is classified as A2L, meaning it is mildly flammable under specific laboratory conditions. This means that R410A cannot simply be "replaced" with R32. New system designs with safety modifications are required in order to accomodate the use of this refrigerant. Although R32 is&nbsp;<em>slightly&nbsp;</em>more flammable, it is still considered much safer than other flammable refrigerants. Risk of fire is very low due to the fact that there must be a highly concentrated leak in an enclosed space along with the presence of an open flame in order for ignition to occur.</p></div></div></div></div><div data-content-type="divider" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><hr data-element="line" data-pb-style="OHGXFT2"></div></div></div><div data-content-type="row" data-appearance="contained" data-element="main"><div data-enable-parallax="0" data-parallax-speed="0.5" data-background-images="{}" data-background-type="image" data-video-loop="true" data-video-play-only-visible="true" data-video-lazy-load="true" data-video-fallback-src="" data-element="inner" data-pb-style="G7AMHL0"><div data-content-type="text" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><h2>GWP (Global Warming Potential) Explained</h2>
<p>Now, I'm not a scientist. When I first came across this term, I had a couple of questions: <em>What is GWP? What do the numbers mean?</em> Here you will find a simple breakdown that will give you a baseline understanding of GWP, including how it is measured and how to interpret the ratings.&nbsp;</p>
<p>As discussed at the beginning of the article, refrigerants work by trapping heat, and then releasing them outside. GWP is a standard measurement used to demonstrate how much heat a gas traps in the atmosphere in comparison to carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide has a GWP of 1, and all other gases are measured against this baseline.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Here's how the two refrigerants compare:&nbsp;</p>
<ul>
<li>R410A has a GWP of about 2,088, meaning it traps<em> more than two thousand times</em> as much heat as carbon dioxide.</li>
<li>R32 has a GWP of about 675, which is roughly <em>68% lower</em> than R410A.</li>
</ul>
<p>Now that we have a basic understanding of GWP ratings and how refrigerants work, we know that lower GWP values indicate a lower environmental impact in the event that the refrigerant is released into the atomosphere.&nbsp;</p></div><div data-content-type="divider" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><hr data-element="line" data-pb-style="TL460CY"></div></div></div><div data-content-type="row" data-appearance="contained" data-element="main"><div data-enable-parallax="0" data-parallax-speed="0.5" data-background-images="{}" data-background-type="image" data-video-loop="true" data-video-play-only-visible="true" data-video-lazy-load="true" data-video-fallback-src="" data-element="inner" data-pb-style="GO2LNGE"><div data-content-type="text" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><h2>R32 vs R410A Comparison Chart</h2>

<p><strong>Refrigerant:&nbsp;</strong>A substance used in air conditioners to absorb heat from inside the RV and release it outside.</p>
<p><strong>GWP (Global Warming Potential):&nbsp;</strong>A rating that shows how much heat a gas traps in the atmosphere compared to carbon dioxide. A lower number means lower environmental impact.</p>

<p>While it uses variable-speed mini-split technology, the Furrion Chill Cube is not a two-piece system. Instead, it brings the performance benefits of a mini-split into a single rooftop design, making it a direct fit for existing RV AC setups.</p>
<p>At the heart of the system is Furrion&rsquo;s variable-speed compressor, which continuously adjusts to match cooling demand. This results in:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Reduced Power Consumption</strong>: up to 50% more efficient than standard rooftop units</li>
<li><strong>Soft-Start Performance</strong>: prevents amperage spikes, ideal for 2,000W generators or inverters</li>
<li><strong>Quieter Operation</strong>: fewer compressor surges and steady fan speeds for a smooth, low-noise experience</li>
<li><strong>Better Dehumidification</strong>: because the compressor runs continuously, it removes humidity more effectively</li>

<div>The instructions indicate that you need to select &ldquo;Pairing&rdquo; at this point, but in our experience, we didn&rsquo;t need to do this step. Instead, we moved straight to the Tuya Smart app on our Android device.</div>

<li>Open the Tuya Smart app.</li>

<li>We clicked on the device and were prompted to select the WiFi network for the thermostat to connect to, entering our network password.</li>

<ol>
<li>
<div>The packaging claims this thermostat can manage up to four heat systems and two air conditioner systems, but this isn't entirely accurate. In reality, it can control two-stage basement heat pumps and air conditioners, standard one-stage rooftop air conditioners and heat pumps, and two auxillary heating outputs. It is important to note that it is not a multi-zone or multi-AC thermostat as suggested by the packaging.</div>
</li>
<li>
<div>The instruction manual could use some refinement. As with many products manufactured overseas, the English instructions appear to be translated, which leads to some awkward phrasing and confusion. That said, we can help clear some things up!</div>

<div id="KUK311V"><span>First and foremost, let's clarify the misconception: the rooftop air conditioner unit itself does not inherently determine whether an RV system is <a tabindex="0" href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/ceiling-assemblies-control-boxes/ceiling-assemblies/ducted.html">ducted</a> or <a tabindex="0" href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/ceiling-assemblies-control-boxes/ceiling-assemblies/non-ducted-direct.html">non-ducted</a>. The key factor in this decision is the interior ceiling assembly. This assembly includes the configuration to direct the air through the ducted installations, or direct the air straight down &amp; out in non-ducted installations.&nbsp;</span></div></div></div></div><div data-content-type="row" data-appearance="contained" data-element="main"><div data-enable-parallax="0" data-parallax-speed="0.5" data-background-images="{}" data-background-type="image" data-video-loop="true" data-video-play-only-visible="true" data-video-lazy-load="true" data-video-fallback-src="" data-element="inner" data-pb-style="R13WQHF"><div data-content-type="divider" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><hr data-element="line" data-pb-style="KDIXL4R"></div><div data-content-type="text" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><h3 id="MAMXEQW"><a tabindex="-1" href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/ceiling-assemblies-control-boxes/ceiling-assemblies/non-ducted-direct.html">Non-Ducted Systems</a>:</h3></div><div class="pagebuilder-column-group" data-background-images="{}" data-content-type="column-group" data-appearance="default" data-grid-size="12" data-element="main" data-pb-style="WDE2S3B"><div class="pagebuilder-column-line" data-content-type="column-line" data-element="main" data-pb-style="ACQF54Y"><div class="pagebuilder-column" data-content-type="column" data-appearance="align-center" data-background-images="{}" data-element="main" data-pb-style="PSCUFDM"><div data-content-type="text" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><div><span>In a <a tabindex="0" href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/ceiling-assemblies-control-boxes/ceiling-assemblies/non-ducted-direct.html">non-ducted system</a>, the cool air is discharged directly from the rooftop unit into the RV's interior space.</span><br><span>There are no ducts or vents in throughout the ceiling to distribute the air more evenly.</span><br><span>This setup is simpler, cost-effective, and suitable for smaller RVs or those with less need for even cooling.</span></div></div></div><div class="pagebuilder-column" data-content-type="column" data-appearance="full-height" data-background-images="{}" data-element="main" data-pb-style="XMITAOO"><figure data-content-type="image" data-appearance="full-width" data-element="main" data-pb-style="NWILAD7"><img class="pagebuilder-mobile-hidden" src="/media/wysiwyg/non-ducted_1_1.png" alt="Non-Ducted/Straight-Through Installation Example" title="" data-element="desktop_image" data-pb-style="DXS20UT"><img class="pagebuilder-mobile-only" src="/media/wysiwyg/non-ducted_1_1.png" alt="Non-Ducted/Straight-Through Installation Example" title="" data-element="mobile_image" data-pb-style="YUULO5O"><figcaption data-element="caption">Non-Ducted/Straight-Through Installation Example</figcaption></figure></div></div></div><div data-content-type="divider" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><hr data-element="line" data-pb-style="UL2DCRB"></div><div data-content-type="text" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><h3><a href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/ceiling-assemblies-control-boxes/ceiling-assemblies/ducted.html">Ducted Systems</a>:</h3></div><div class="pagebuilder-column-group" data-background-images="{}" data-content-type="column-group" data-appearance="default" data-grid-size="12" data-element="main" data-pb-style="A8D3E3F"><div class="pagebuilder-column-line" data-content-type="column-line" data-element="main" data-pb-style="O2NVH7S"><div class="pagebuilder-column" data-content-type="column" data-appearance="align-center" data-background-images="{}" data-element="main" data-pb-style="CX5OINP"><div data-content-type="text" data-appearance="default" data-element="main"><div><span>In a <a tabindex="0" href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/ceiling-assemblies-control-boxes/ceiling-assemblies/ducted.html">ducted system</a>, the rooftop unit is connected to a network of ducts within the RV's ceiling assembly.</span><br><span>These ducts distribute the cool air to multiple vents located throughout the RV.</span><br><span>Ducted systems provide more even and consistent cooling, making them ideal for larger RVs or those seeking enhanced comfort.</span><br><span>Understanding Lateral and Center Ducting</span></div>
<div><span>Once you've decided to go for a ducted system, it's essential to know that there are two main types of ducting setups: lateral and center ducting. <div><span>To determine which type of ducting and ceiling assembly is right for your RV, consider the following questions:</span></div>
<div>
<ol>
<li><span>For new installations:</span>
<ol>
<li><span>What is the size and layout of your RV? Larger RVs often benefit from ducted systems for even cooling, while smaller RVs may find non-ducted setups sufficient.</span></li>
<li><span>Do you prefer consistent cooling throughout your RV or the ability to customize airflow to specific areas? Ducted installations provides uniform cooling, while non-ducted installations cost less, can be easier to install, and are generally less complex than ducted setups.</span></li>
</ol>
</li>
<li><span>Are you retrofitting or replacing an existing system? Ensure compatibility with your RV's current setup to avoid unnecessary modifications.</span></li>
</ol>
</div>
<div><span>In summary, when it comes to RV rooftop air conditioners, it's essential to understand that the ducting setup is determined by the interior ceiling assembly, not the rooftop unit itself. Ducted systems offer better airflow control and even cooling. By considering your RV's size, layout, and cooling preferences, or the RV's existing setup, you can select the right ceiling assembly and ducting setup for a comfortable and enjoyable travel experience. <p>If you own an RV, then you know the importance of having a good air conditioner. The Coleman-Mach RV rooftop air conditioners are one of the most popular choices among RVers, and for good reason. These units are reliable, efficient, and durable. However, what many people don't know is that these air conditioners have gone through several model number revisions over the years. In this blog post, we'll use the example of the Coleman-Mach 8 model number "<a href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/coleman-mach-8-15-000-btu-heat-pump-black-condensate-pump-47024-079.html">47024-079</a>" and compare it to some of its older model numbers.Let's take a look at some of the older model numbers for this same (or equivalent) air conditioner. Here are some of the most common ones:</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>9024A879, 47024-879, 49024-879,47074-879, 47074A879, 9024-679, 49024A879, 9024-779, 9024-879, 9024A779, 9024C879, 47024B879, 47024A879, 47024-879, 47074-879, 47074B879, 47074B679, 47074-679</em></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>As you can see, there are many different model numbers for this air conditioner. So, why are there so many revisions? The answer is simple: improvements, engineering design changes and component vendors changing with the unit. As Coleman-Mach/Airxcel Inc.,<em>(RV Group)</em> has made improvements to the design and technology of their air conditioners, they have revised the model numbers to reflect these changes.</p>
<p>For example, the "9024A879" model number was one of the earliest versions of this air conditioner. The next example is the "9024C879" model number. This version has had two engineering design changes since the first model mentiond, the "9024A879".&nbsp; These revision changes are not always public information and can often be something as small as adding or removing a screw somewhere on the unit.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2><strong>What's the replacement for my existing/older unit?</strong><img src="/media/wysiwyg/airxcel_mod_changes.png" alt="The manufacturer&#039;s tool for suggesting replacement model numbers." width="444" height="305" /></h2>
<p>This is probably one of the most commonly asked question we get!&nbsp; Luckily the manufacturer has a tool that helps us answer this question for our customers.&nbsp; The tool can be found on the manufacturer's website on the page: "<a href="https://coleman-mach.com/search-model-number-replacement/">Find A Replacement for Discontinued AC Models</a>" .&nbsp; All you have to do is enter your existing model number&nbsp;<em>(IE: 9024A879)</em>, and the result that comes back is the <a href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/coleman-mach-8-15-000-btu-heat-pump-black-condensate-pump-47024-079.html">47024-079</a>. It's worth noting though that this tool isn't always completely up to date. So if they recommend a model number that you cannot seem to locate, feel free to <a href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/contact">reachout to us</a> and ask any questions that you may have!</p>
<p>Something to be aware of is that, just because there is a recommended replacement for your existing model number, it is possible that many of the <a href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/rooftop-acs-and-heat-pumps.html">other units</a> will work in it's place.&nbsp; For instance; if you previously had a <a href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/rooftop-acs-and-heat-pumps/signature-series/ultra-low-profile/coleman-mach-8-13-500-btu-heat-pump-white-47003b876.html">47003A876</a> <em>(which according the the part <a href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/blog/post/coleman-mach-rooftop-ac-model-numbers-decrypted">number nomenclature</a>, is an <a href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/rooftop-acs-and-heat-pumps/signature-series/ultra-low-profile.html">ultra low-profile&nbsp;Mach 8</a> <a href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/rooftop-acs-and-heat-pumps.html?btus=33">13,500 BTU</a> <a href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/rooftop-acs-and-heat-pumps.html?heat_pump=60">Heat Pump</a>)</em>, if you don't utilize the heat pump feature, you can replace it with the latest equivalent air conditioner, which is the <a href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/rooftop-acs-and-heat-pumps/signature-series/ultra-low-profile/coleman-mach-8-13-500-btu-air-conditioner-47203-076.html">47203-076</a>.</p>
<h2><!-- pagebreak --><strong>In Conclusion...</strong></h2>
<p>The Coleman-Mach RV rooftop air conditioners have undergone several model number revisions over the years, reflecting advancements in technology and improvements to the design of the units and component vendor changes. By understanding the different model numbers and <a href="https://www.rvproductsshop.com/blog/post/coleman-mach-rooftop-ac-model-numbers-decrypted">their meanings</a>, you can make an informed decision when purchasing an air conditioner for your RV. The next time you see a Coleman-Mach air conditioner with a different model number, you'll know that it's likely a newer, more advanced version of the unit you already know and love.</p>
<p>So, if you're in the market for replacing your existing Coleman-Mach RV rooftop air conditioner, it's important to pay attention to the model number. While the basic features of the unit may be the same across multiple model numbers, there may be differences in design, fitment, or vendors of the components inside, such as the compressor. By understanding the different model numbers and their revisions, you can make an informed decision and choose the best air conditioner for your RV.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
