If you’ve recently searched for a Furrion air conditioner or replacement part and come up empty, you’re not alone. Over the past year, many RV HVAC model numbers across the industry have quietly become obsolete. Here’s what’s happening behind the scenes, and why it’s ultimately good news for consumers.

Discontinued Furrion Models

Furrion has officially discontinued the Chill HE Low-Profile and original Chill series. If you’re searching for one of these older model numbers, that’s likely why you’re having trouble finding it.

However, Furrion has recently released new model numbers for both the Chill Cube and Chill HE lines. That strongly suggests these series are continuing, just under updated model numbers.

Why We Are Seeing These Changes Now

A major reason for disappearing model numbers is a federal regulation change: manufacturers are no longer allowed to produce new HVAC equipment using R410A refrigerant.

The industry is now transitioning to R32, which is more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Because refrigerant type plays a large role in certifications, safety design, and compliance standards, switching from R410A to R32 requires:

New engineering requirements
Updated safety protocols
New certifications
And, yes… new model numbers

Even when a unit looks nearly identical, the refrigerant change alone is enough to force a completely different SKU.

If I Replace My Old AC, Do I Need a Whole New System?

The short answer: Likely. You may notice that components from the same product line don’t always work together anymore. That’s usually because:

Parts had to be redesigned to meet R32 safety requirements
Internal components have been upgraded
Older parts were engineered specifically for R410A systems

In other words, compatibility breaks often happen because manufacturers are improving performance, efficiency, functionality, or safety, not arbitrarily changing things.

A Clear Guide to Today's Refrigerants

Modern RV air conditioners are designed to be more efficient and environmentally friendly than those of the past. A key part of that progress is the shift toward better refrigerants. Refrigerants are the substances inside an AC system that absorb heat from your RV and release it outside in order to keep the interior cool.

For many years, R410A has been the standard refrigerant in both residential and RV cooling systems. Today, due to EPA mandates, manufacturers are beginning to transition to R32, a newer refrigerant that delivers higher efficiency and a lower environmental impact.

This guide provides a clear, easy to understand comparison of R32 and R410A, and explains the benefits of using R32.

What is R410A Refrigerant?

R410A became the leading refrigerant in cooling systems after older options like R22 began phasing out. It has become known for reliability, strong cooling performance, and compatibility with fixed speed compressor systems that have been the standard for many years.

R410A is a blend made from two separate refrigerants, R32 and R125
It is rated A1, meaning it is non flammable
It provides dependable, proven performance in traditional RV and residential AC systems

Limitations:

Although R410A has been regarded as the standard for many years, the EPA's AIM Act now prohibits the manufacture and import of new R410A systems. This may cause repairs to become increasingly more expensive as supplies deplete.

What is R32 Refrigerant?

R32 is a modern refrigerant that is becoming the preferred option in many high efficiency air conditioners. It is especially common in systems that use inverter or variable speed compressors, which are now appearing in more advanced RV AC models.

It is a single component refrigerant rather than a blend, which makes it easier to recycle

Safety Information

R32 is classified as A2L, meaning it is mildly flammable under specific laboratory conditions. This means that R410A cannot simply be "replaced" with R32. New system designs with safety modifications are required in order to accomodate the use of this refrigerant. Although R32 is slightly more flammable, it is still considered much safer than other flammable refrigerants. Risk of fire is very low due to the fact that there must be a highly concentrated leak in an enclosed space along with the presence of an open flame in order for ignition to occur.

GWP (Global Warming Potential) Explained

Now, I'm not a scientist. When I first came across this term, I had a couple of questions: What is GWP? What do the numbers mean? Here you will find a simple breakdown that will give you a baseline understanding of GWP, including how it is measured and how to interpret the ratings.

As discussed at the beginning of the article, refrigerants work by trapping heat, and then releasing them outside. GWP is a standard measurement used to demonstrate how much heat a gas traps in the atmosphere in comparison to carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide has a GWP of 1, and all other gases are measured against this baseline.

Here's how the two refrigerants compare:

R410A has a GWP of about 2,088, meaning it traps more than two thousand times as much heat as carbon dioxide.
R32 has a GWP of about 675, which is roughly 68% lower than R410A.

Now that we have a basic understanding of GWP ratings and how refrigerants work, we know that lower GWP values indicate a lower environmental impact in the event that the refrigerant is released into the atomosphere.

The new Coleman-Mach WiFi Thermostat by Airxcel (9420-391 is the model number at the time of publishing this) is a promising option for enthusiasts, offering modern features like remote control via smartphone apps, scheduling, and eco mode while keeping things simple and functional. In this review, we share our hands-on experience with the Coleman-Mach WiFi thermostat and its key features, to help you determine if it’s the right fit for your setup.

Unboxing & Installation

Right from the start, this thermostat impresses with its clean and thoughtful packaging. The thermostat is wrapped in a soft protective bag with a plastic covers to prevent damage to the screen and proximity sensor during shipping. This attention to detail ensures that your thermostat arrives in pristine condition.

The physical installation process is straightforward thanks to the included wall mount, screws, and anchors. The wiring terminal style is familiar to anyone who has worked with modern residential thermostats, as they use the common press-in style wire terminals. Whether you're an experienced DIYer or a first-time installer, or a builder/OEM, mounting and connecting this thermostat is relatively straightforward. We’ve included some helpful wiring diagrams below to guide you through common wiring setups, like air conditioners, heat pumps, and air conditioner with furnace.

Getting the Thermostat Connected

Once you’ve physically installed the thermostat, setting it up on your WiFi network is simple and quick. After applying power to the thermostat, push in or "click" the physical knob to access the thermostat’s menu. You’ll then turn the knob to the antenna icon labeled "Network" and click it to select.

The instructions indicate that you need to select “Pairing” at this point, but in our experience, we didn’t need to do this step. Instead, we moved straight to the Tuya Smart app on our Android device.

Click the plus symbol in the top right and select “Add Device” to begin the pairing process.
Within less than a minute, the device “RVP 9420-391” appeared with a photo of the thermostat.
We clicked on the device and were prompted to select the WiFi network for the thermostat to connect to, entering our network password.

The entire process took less than a few minutes to complete, and soon we had full control of the thermostat from our phone. The ease of use and smooth pairing experience made it stress-free, even for those not well-versed in smart devices.

Controlling via the Tuya Smart App

Once connected, the Tuya Smart app offers a range of controls and options to make managing your climate convenient and efficient. On the first screen for the device, you’ll find:

The name of the device (which you can edit to your preference)
Current indoor temperature and humidity readings
The Temperature Set Point
Buttons for switching between Modes, adjusting Fan Speeds, editing the Schedule, and accessing Settings

Within the settings screen of the app, the functionality expands even further. Here, you can adjust:

Temperature info, such as set points and indoor conditions
The type of wiring configuration used in your HVAC system
Fan settings for heating devices
Changeover and cycle settings
A filter reminder, which helps keep your system running efficiently
Temperature offset, allowing for fine-tuning based on your specific setup

Functionality & Performance

After a week of testing, the Coleman-Mach WiFi thermostat has proven to be reliable and easy to use. It effectively maintains the desired climate, with no hiccups in connectivity or performance. The price point is also a major selling point, as it offers similar (if not superior) functionality to its competitors but at a lower cost.

Some Room for Improvement

While the functionality seems to perform exactly as expected, there are a few caveats:

The packaging claims this thermostat can manage up to four heat systems and two air conditioner systems, but this isn't entirely accurate. In reality, it can control two-stage basement heat pumps and air conditioners, standard one-stage rooftop air conditioners and heat pumps, and two auxillary heating outputs. It is important to note that it is not a multi-zone or multi-AC thermostat as suggested by the packaging.
The instruction manual could use some refinement. As with many products manufactured overseas, the English instructions appear to be translated, which leads to some awkward phrasing and confusion. That said, we can help clear some things up!

The identification of model and serial numbers for Coleman®-Mach® rooftop air conditioners involves a dual placement on each unit, serving distinct purposes. For comprehensive troubleshooting of air conditioning issues, it's beneficial to have access to both the rooftop unit's details and those pertaining to the ceiling assemblies.

Often times the unit's model number can be discovered by removing the interior ceiling grill (when available). After removing the ceiling assembly, the model number of the AC can be seen on a sticker on the lip of the return air.

Common Units: TSR, Mach I, Mach 3+, Mach 15, 48XXX Series, 8XXX

All you have to do is enter your existing model number (IE: 9024A879), and the result that comes back is the 47024-079. It's worth noting though that this tool isn't always completely up to date. Something to be aware of is that, just because there is a recommended replacement for your existing model number, it is possible that many of the other units will work in it's place. For instance; if you previously had a 47003A876 (which according the the part number nomenclature, is an ultra low-profile Mach 8 13,500 BTU Heat Pump), if you don't utilize the heat pump feature, you can replace it with the latest equivalent air conditioner, which is the 47203-076.
